Leaves: blade of basal leaves narrowly to broadly obovate, up to 90 x 15 mm, upper surface glandular-pubescent and cobwebby, lower surface greyish white-woolly; blade of stem leaves similar but smaller, ± imbricate. Heads disciform, campanulate, 15-20 x 20-30 mm, solitary or more usually in a few-to several-headed corymb. Involucral bracts in ± 10 series, graded, loosely imbricate, much exceeding florets, glossy, white, inner tinged pink or crimson at base inside, rarely outer bracts with brownish pink overcast, tips acute, radiating, stereome divided. Receptacle epaleate, shortly honeycombed. Flowers: female and disc florets 102-329, 10-26 female; corolla of disc florets narrowly funnel-shaped, yellow; Dec.-Feb. Fruit with cypsela hairy. Pappus of few barbellate bristles, bases not cohering.
