Leaves: blade oblong-obovate to suborbicular, 4-10 x 2-5 mm, narrowed below, ± clasping, apex subacute, recurved, margins undulate, both surfaces densely white-woolly felted. Heads disciform, rarely discoid, campanulate, 4 x 4 mm, solitary or few clustered terminally, closely surrounded by leaves. Involucral bracts in 3 or 4 series, subequal, loosely imbricate, ± equalling florets, not radiating, tips obtuse, often emarginate, golden-brown to buff-coloured or whitish, often red-purple above stereome; outer webbed to surrounding leaves, stereome divided. Receptacle epaleate, nearly smooth. Flowers: female and/or only disc florets 1242, 0-9 female; corolla of disc florets funnel-shaped, yellow; Oct. Fruit with cypsela? (and ovary) hairy or rarely glabrous. Pappus of many barbellate bristles, bases with patent cilia, not cohering.
