Perennial herb or subshrub. Stems 250 mm high, ± greyish white-woolly, leafy, ± nude near capitula. Leaves mostly 10-25 x 5-7 mm, elliptic-oblong to lanceolate, base ± clasping, both sides greyish white-woolly and glandular-setose. Capitula homogamous, campanulate, 4 x 3 mm, many in clusters in a dense, corymbose panicle; involucral bracts radiating, in 5 series, opaque white, ± crisped. Receptacle with short fimbrils. Flowers 20-25. Flowering time Jan. Pappus of bristles with barbellate apex, scabrid, bases with patent cilia cohering strongly. Cypselae hairy.
Like H. felinum but smaller, to 30 cm, leaves more woolly and flower heads smaller, ± 4 x 3 mm.
