Dwarf shrub, up to 0.6 m high and in diameter; lax or dense, twiggy, covered with silver-grey indumentum with tissue paper-like surface, woolly when old, ± viscid, branches very leafy. Leaves very variable; blade linear, oblong, narrowly obovate to spathulate, 6-30 x 1-6 mm, often folded lengthwise, apex subacute, mucronate, often recurved, base shortly decurrent, indumentum as for stems. Heads disciform, rarely discoid, cylindric, ± 3-4 x 1.5-2.5 mm, many in clusters crowded in terminal, corymbose panicles. Involucral bracts in 4 series, graded, inner equalling florets, imbricate, ovate, acute, pellucid, glossy, lemon-yellow, not radiating, stereome divided. Receptacle epaleate, smooth. Flowers: female and/or only disc florets 3-8, 0-2 female; corolla of disc florets narrowly campanulate above, bright yellow; Oct., Nov., Feb., Mar. Fruit with cypsela glabrous. Pappus of 2-4 barbellate bristles, or absent.
