Shrub, up to 400 mm high; well branched, lax to compact, closely leafy; flowering stems distantly leafy. Leaves: blade rhomboid or elliptic, up to 25 x 12 mm, abruptly narrowed to a flat, petiole-like, clasping base, apex ± acute; upper surface thinly grey-woolly, lightly cobwebbed or sometimes glabrous, lower surface white-felted, triplinerved, nerves prominent below. Heads discoid, narrowly campanulate, 4-5 x 5-7 mm, in few-to many-headed, corymbose panicles. Involucral bracts in ± 6 series, graded, imbricate; outer pale brownish, webbed together with wool; inner much exceeding florets, tips milk-white, opaque, radiating, stereome divided. Receptacle epaleate, honeycombed. Flowers: disc florets only, 9-25; corolla narrowly campanulate, yellow; Jan.-Apr. Fruit with cypsela hairy. Pappus of many, scabrid bristles, bases not cohering.
