Shrub, up to 1 m high; rounded, old branches bare, rough with leaf scars, young branchlets greyish white-woolly, closely leafy. Leaves: blade linear or oblong, 3-25 x 1-5 mm, apex mucronate, acute, subacute or obtuse, tip recurved, base ± clasping, margins revolute; upper surface minutely gland-dotted, glabrous to greyish white-woolly, lower surface white-woolly, ribbed by parallel veins. Heads mostly disciform, rarely discoid, campanulate, 4-6 x 4-8 mm, many in compact, corymbose clusters. Involucral bracts in 5 series, graded; outer pale golden-brown, closely imbricate; inner ± equalling florets, tips obtuse, bright yellow, more loosely imbricate; minutely radiating, stereome divided. Receptacle epaleate, honeycombed. Flowers: mostly female and disc florets 25-60, rarely only disc florets, 0-13 female; corolla of disc florets narrowly campanulate above, yellow; mainly Aug.-Apr. Fruit with cypsela hairy. Pappus of many barbellate bristles, bases cohering by patent cilia.
