Characteristics

Compact, much branched shrubs. Branchlets with internodes mostly 10-15 x 1 mm. Leaves ovate-lanceolate to oblong-elliptical, 15-25 x 10-15 mm, margins strongly undulate, chartaceous. Inflorescence: raceme axillary or terminal, 15-20 mm long, 8-15-flowered. Flowers whitish, 5 x 0.5 mm at anthesis; pedicels c. 1 mm long. Berries ellipsoid, 5-6 mm long, scarlet.

Open, rather laxly branched shrubs. Branchlets with internodes mostly 20-35 x 1 mm. Leaves lanceolate-ovate to elliptical, 30-40 x 10-15 mm, margins essentially smooth and flattened, chartaceous. Inflorescence: raceme terminal, 20-30 mm long, 10-20-flowered. Flowers whitish, 10 x 1 mm at anthesis; pedicels 2 mm long. Berries ellipsoid, 8-9 mm long, pink.
Corolla in bud quadrangular in lower quarter to half, somewhat shouldered to slight neck, tapered in upper part; petals white to pinkish, 6–11 mm long, linear-spathulate, thickened and grooved below filament insertion.
Leaves opposite or subopposite; petiole 1–6 mm long; lamina chartaceous, 1–5.5 × 0.6–2 cm, ovate-lanceolate to ovate or elliptic, blunt or pointed, with 4–7 pairs of lateral nerves variably apparent.
Racemes terminal and axillary on mostly short lateral branches, 1.5–3 cm long, 10–30-flowered; pedicel 1.5–4 mm long; bract 0.8–1.2 mm long, ovate, dorsally umbonate or spurred.
Stamen filament raised on a stub-like petal-appendage; anthers locellate, 2–4 mm long.
Stems much branched to 0.6 m; branchlets 1–3 mm diameter, green.
Berry scarlet, 7–9 mm long, ellipsoid; seed white.
Calyx entire to slightly toothed.
Receptacle 1–2 mm long.
Style 5–10 mm long.
