Characteristics

Plant stilted, to 15 cm tall. Leaves 5-10 cm long, 1-1.5 mm diam.; basal sheath brown or transparent, splitting at margin into long fine hairs. Umbel 12-13 mm long, 8-10 mm wide; peduncle bracts 10-12 mm long, dark brown with scarious margins; outer involucral bracts narrowly linear, dilated at base, c. 9 mm long, dark brown, with basal 3 mm of margin finely divided; inner involucral bracts pungent, 12-15 mm long, dark brown, the margins scarious, entire or fimbriate; bracteoles very finely divided, woolly, to 7 mm long, very pale yellow. Flowers 1 fertile and 1 sterile per bracteole; pedicels 1-2 mm long. Perianth 3-4 mm long, pale cream. Stamens c. 3 mm long. Style filiform, c. 3.5 mm long.
