Characteristics

Leaf-lamina 0·7–1·5 × 0·4–1 cm., obovate to broadly obovate, apex truncate or rounded, margin coarsely serrate but entire towards the base, base broadly cuneate, shortly greyish-stellate-tomentose on both surfaces and with a few glands, nerves in 2–A pairs somewhat impressed above and prominent beneath; petiole up to 8 mm. long, stellate-tomentose and glandular; stipules c. 2 mm. long, tomentose, ovate, acute.

Perennial herb or shrublet up to 50 cm. tall; branchlets at first stellate-tomentose with some glandular hairs, soon becoming pubescent, and purplish-brown.
Ovary shortly stipitate, oblong-ovoid, minutely horned at the apex, stellate-tomentose and glandular; style c. 4 mm. long, puberulous in the lower 1/2.
Flowers solitary in the upper axils, nodding; peduncle c. 1·2 cm. long, slender, stellate-tomentose, with 2 minute bracts near the apex.
Calyx 6–7 × 6–7 mm., campanulate, densely stellate-pubescent and glandular; lobes c. 4·5 mm. long, narrowly triangular-acuminate.
Stamens with narrowly oblanceolate filaments c. 3·5 mm. long, pubescent on the shoulders; anthers c. 5 mm. long, pubescent.
Capsule c. 8 × 6 mm., oblong-ovoid, with 5 spreading apical horns 0·5–1 mm. long, shortly stellate-tomentose and glandular.
Petals c. 1 × 0·4 cm., red or purplish, narrowly obovate, margin inrolled in the lower 1/3, pubescent in the lower 1/3.
Seeds brown, c. 1·5 × 1 mm., subreniform, wrinkled.
