Characteristics

Dwarf shrub, up to 0.6 m high; succulent, ± glabrous, stems ± angular. Branches with grey-brown bark. Leaves alternate, sessile; blade cuneate-oblong, up to 40 x 5-10 mm, apex shallowly 3-5-dentate, rest of the margins entire, sparsely pectinate-ciliate, leathery, glabrous, faintly 3-nerved. Heads disciform, solitary, up to 10 mm in diameter; peduncle short, terminal or opposite leaves. Involucral bracts 4 or 5, up to 15 mm long, broadly oblong, acute, connate at base, edges membranous, ecalyculate. Flowers: outer female florets filiform, small (± 1.5 mm long), fertile; disc florets functionally male; yellow; Feb.-Nov. Fruit with marginal cypsela glabrous or weakly hairy. Pappus of many barbellate bristles.
