Characteristics

Shrub, up to 1 m high; erect, succulent, glabrous. Branches with light, papery bark. Leaves alternate, sessile, with decurrent line from each side of base; blade coriaceous, linear-oblong, up to 25 x 1.5-3.0(-6.0) mm, apex subobtuse, margins entire or with few minute teeth. Heads radiate, terminal, solitary; peduncle 6-12 mm long. Involucral bracts 5, 8-10 mm long, oblong, acute, connate at base, edges membranous, ecalyculate. Flowers: ray florets 5, ± 10 mm long, inconspicuous, fertile; disc florets functionally male; yellow; Aug.-Nov. Fruit with marginal cypsela silky-villous. Pappus of many barbellate bristles.
