Characteristics

Plants 40-150(-300) mm high. Corm ovoid, slightly asymmetric, ± 10 mm diam.; tunics dark brown, ± concentric, splitting below into sections. Stem simple or branched from near base, weak, often curved. Leaves usually 4, lower 2 basal, third subbasal and uppermost short, entirely sheathing stem, blades lanceolate to ± ovate, usually ± as long as stem, sword-shaped to ± linear or falcate, mostly (2-)3-6 mm wide, leathery, main vein and margins thickened, often dry and broken (or burned) at flowering. Spike (1-)3-to 6-flowered; outer bract green, 8-18 mm long, inner bract partly membranous. Flowers diurnal, ± salver-shaped, pale pink, pale lilac or white, outer tepals flushed brown to greenish purple outside; scent not recorded; perianth tube cylindric, widening near mouth, mostly 7-12(-14) mm long; tepals mostly 15-20 mm long, elliptic, spreading. Filaments ± erect, ± 3 mm long; anthers 5.0-7.5 mm long, ?white; pollen ?white. Style branches spreading. Capsules oblong-ellipsoid, 7-10 mm long. Seeds light brown, softly angular, with loose testa.
