Characteristics

Plants mostly 120-250(-450) mm high. Corm bell-shaped with flat base, ± 12 mm diam.; tunics dark brown, woody, margins minutely serrated, outer layers breaking into segments below. Stem unbranched, smooth, sheathing at base by membranous pale to brown cataphyll. Leaves usually 4, lower 2 basal, often prostrate, ± lanceolate, flaccid, ± blades 60-80(-150) x 2-8 mm, often obtuse, with slightly thickened main vein, third leaf inserted shortly above ground and sheathing stem for most of its length, uppermost leaf bract-like, inserted on upper third of stem, entirely sheathing. Spike (1-)3-to 8-flowered; bracts mostly 10-14 mm long, often flushed red. Flowers possibly crepuscular, salver-shaped, white, tepals flushed pink outside, carnation-scented; perianth tube ± cylindric, 10-13 mm long; tepals subequal, elliptic, 10-12 x ± 4 mm, spreading. Filaments included, inserted below mouth of tube, ± 0.5 mm long; anthers ± 3.5 mm long, pale yellow, included with apices barely emerging. Style short, dividing in lower 1/3 of tube, branches ± 3 mm long, seldom reaching base of anthers. Capsules narrowly ovoid, 10-15 mm long. Seeds unknown.
