Characteristics

Plants 100-150 mm high. Corm ovoid with oblique flat base, 8-12 mm diam.; tunics woody, concentric, ± scalloped into concave segments with fringed edges. Stem usually unbranched, smooth. Leaves 4, lower 3 ± basal and largest, blades linear, 1.2-2.0 mm wide, slightly fleshy, slightly thickened in midline, uppermost leaf inserted in middle of stem, sometimes entirely sheathing or with short free unifacial tip. Spike mostly 3-to 6-flowered, flexuose; bracts 10-15 mm long, green, becoming dry above, outer with margins united around stem for 3-5 mm, inner ± as long as outer. Flowers crepuscular, white to cream-coloured, outer tepals pale pink to reddish or brown outside, strongly scented of stocks when open; perianth tube slender, curved near apex, 10-13 mm long; tepals subequal, lanceolate, 12-14 x 2.5-3.5 mm, spreading ± at right angles to tube when fully open. Filaments ± 4 mm long; anthers 5-7 mm long, yellow; pollen white. Style branches ± 12 mm long, weakly spreading, slightly shorter or slightly longer than anthers. Capsules oblong-obovoid, 6-8 x ± 3.5 mm. Seeds angular, ± winged on angles, ± 1 mm long.
