Characteristics

Plants 250-300 mm high. Corm ± bell-shaped-ovoid, with oblique flat base, 10-12 mm diam.; tunics of ± woody overlapping layers, notched below into triangular segments. Stem unbranched, sheathed below by dry, brown cataphylls. Leaves ± 5, lower 2 longest, usually dry at flowering, soft and ± falcate, ± half as long as stem, ± 1 mm wide, upper 2 or 3 leaves short, largely to entirely sheathing. Spike (1)2-to 4-flowered; bracts ± membranous, drying from apex, often flushed red, 18-30(-40 mm long, outer with margins united around axis near base for ± 1 mm. Flowers half nodding, deep, glossy pink, unscented; perianth tube 13-21 mm long, cylindric, slightly curved toward apex; tepals subequal, lanceolate, laxly spreading, 13-55 x 5-7 mm, spreading. Filaments inserted in middle of tube, ± 1.5 mm long; anthers ± 5.5 mm long, included, yellow. Style dividing opposite base of anthers near middle of tube, branches ± 8 mm long, tips emerging from tube thus exceeding anthers. Capsules ovoid-oblong, ± 9 mm long. Seeds light brown, angular-prismatic.
