Characteristics

Plants mostly acaulescent, up to 60 mm high, including flowers. Corm ± ovoid, 12-15 mm diam., asymmetric with oblique flat side; tunics woody, imbricate, dark brown, outer layers V-notched on lower margins. Stem rarely emerging up to 12 mm above ground, unbranched. Leaves usually 2(3), basal, plane, ± falcate, obtuse at apex, lowermost 25-40 x 4-10 mm, upper 10-20 mm long. Spike 1-or 2-flowered; bracts dimorphic, outer leaf-like, green, 15-20 mm long, inner ± as long, concealed, membranous. Flowers crepuscular, salver-shaped, yellow, outer tepals dark brown outside, sweetly scented; perianth tube cylindric, 18-28 mm long; tepals subequal, obovate-elliptic, spreading, outer 13-15 x 5-8 mm, inner 1-2 mm shorter. Filaments suberect, ± 3 mm long; anthers 5-7 mm long, held horizontally, usually yellow; pollen yellow. Style branches 4-8 mm long, ascending. Capsules ellipsoid, 15-25 mm long. Seeds softly angular, dull yellow.
