Plants 180-200 mm high. Corm ± bell-shaped, with flat, oblique base, up to 15 mm diam.; tunics of ± woody overlapping layers, fragmenting into segments with raised edges. Stem unbranched. Leaves usually 4, lower 2 basal, terete, straight, ± erect, shorter than stem, ± 1.5 mm diam., uppermost leaf sheathing stem nearly to base of spike. Spike mostly 5-to 8-flowered; bracts green below, membranous above, (10-)12-14 mm long, outer with margins united around axis in lower 1/3-1/2. Flowers crepuscular, half nodding, ± salver-shaped, white with outer tepals red outside, ± zygomorphic with anthers held against upper tepals and style branches pendent; perianth tube 5-6 mm long, straight; tepals subequal, obovate, 13-15 x 5-6 mm, spreading. Filaments ± 2 mm long; anthers ± 6 mm long, white. Style dividing at mouth of tube, branches ± 9 mm long, held against lower tepal.
