Characteristics

Plants mostly 200-500 mm high. Corm ± globose, slightly asymmetric with obliquely flattened side, 10-13 mm diam.; tunics woody, imbricate, splitting from base into sections. Stem simple or sometimes branched from near base. Leaves 4, lower 2 basal, with well-developed blades reaching up to base of spike, (2)4-6 mm wide, sword-shaped to falcate, margins and main vein visibly thickened; upper 2 leaves cauline and largely or upper fully sheathing. Spike flexuose, mostly 4-to 14(-18)-flowered; bracts 10-17 mm long, sometimes tipped red. Flowers diurnal, creamy yellow, evidently not scented; perianth tube 6.0-8.5 mm long, cylindric, dilated at throat; tepals 14-20 x 4-6 mm, ± elliptic, spreading. Filaments ascending, 3-4 mm long; anthers 5-7 mm long, dull yellow to brown; pollen brown or dull yellow. Style branches spreading, 7-10 mm long, reaching to ± apex of anthers. Capsules ± ovoid-oblong, 6-8 x ± 4 mm. Seeds light brown, angular, angles narrowly ridged, pale.
