Characteristics

Plants mostly 60-100(-180) mm high, including leaves. Corm bell-shaped with flat base, ± 10 mm diam.; tunics woody, margin with radiating spines. Stem reaching shortly above ground or underground, sometimes 1-or 2-branched but always concealed by leaf bases. Leaves 3 to 5, plane, falcate or erect and lanceolate, 60-120 x (3-)4-7 mm. Spike 1-to 3-flowered; bracts pale green to ± membranous, 10-20 mm long, largely concealed by leaf bases. Flowers diurnal, salver-shaped, deep pink to purple, tepals darker outside; perianth tube (15-)20-25 mm long, cylindric, widening near apex; tepals subequal, elliptic, 15-23 x 4-9 mm, spreading horizontally. Filaments (4-)7-10 mm long; anthers 4-7 mm long, ?purple. Style branches 10-12 mm long, suberect, barely exceeding anthers in closed flower. Capsules ovoid, 6-10 mm long. Seeds unknown.
