Characteristics

Plants mainly 150-250 mm high. Corm obconic, 7-9 mm diam.; tunics woody, soon breaking into elliptic segments tapering above into short points. Stem usually unbranched. Leaves 3 (rarely 4), lower 2 basal and longest, reaching to ± middle of stem, ± linear, 2-3 mm wide, firm-textured, main vein and margins lightly raised; upper 1 (or 2) leaves smaller, 45-60 mm long, inserted on lower 1/3 to middle of stem, sheathing for most of their length, with short free tip. Spike lax, mostly 2-or 3(4)-flowered; bracts green, 12-15 mm long, inner ± 2/3 as long as outer, translucent. Flowers diurnal, rotate, bright mauve-pink, pale yellow in mouth of tube; perianth tube 6-9 mm long, cylindric, expanded near apex; tepals spreading, elliptic, 10-15 x 3.5-5.0 mm, acute. Filaments suberect, ± 3 mm, inserted on tepals above mouth of tube; anthers ± 5 mm long, shortly tailed, yellow; pollen yellow. Style branches ± 10 mm long, laxly spreading, reaching to anther tips in closed flower.
