Characteristics

Plants 50-150(-250) mm high. Corm ovoid-elliptic with obliquely flattened side, 3-6 mm diam.; tunics dark brown, ± concentric, layers irregularly notched below. Stem unbranched. Leaves mostly 4, lower 2 basal, ± lanceolate, often prostrate, mostly 40-100 x 2-8 mm, soft-textured, main vein slightly thickened, upper 2 leaves cauline, largely to entirely sheathing. Spike 2-to 4(-8)-flowered; bracts mostly 9-15 mm long, often flushed red distally. Flowers crepuscular, salver-shaped, white, outer tepals usually flushed red outside; perianth tube ± cylindric, 12-15 mm long; tepals elliptic, 14-16 mm long, spreading. Filaments ± erect, 3-5 mm long; anthers 5-6 mm long, horizontal, white; pollen white. Style branches ± 8 mm long, spreading, reaching middle of anthers in closed flower. Capsules ovoid, ± 8 mm long. Seeds light brown, softly angular.
