Characteristics

Plants 100-200 mm high. Corm ± bell-shaped, with flat, oblique base, 6-8 mm wide; tunics of ± woody overlapping layers, fragmenting into segments with minutely fringed margins. Stem unbranched, sheathed by leaves and at base by a brown cataphyll. Leaves 2 to 4, straight, ± erect, 30-80 mm long, 1.5-2.0 mm wide, uppermost leaf largely sheathing and reaching nearly to base of spike. Spike (1)2-or 3-flowered; bracts green, often flushed red, 18-30(-40 mm long, outer with margins united around axis for 2-3 mm. Flowers nodding, ± white or pale pink especially with age, zygomorphic with unilateral stamens; perianth tube 15-25 mm long, curved toward apex; tepals subequal, narrowly ovate-elliptic, 15-25 x 6-9 mm, spreading. Stamens unilateral, pendent; filaments 8-10 mm long; anthers 6-10 mm long, white. Style branches 12-15 mm long, loosely twisted, pendent.
