Characteristics

Plants mostly 60-80 mm high. Corm ovoid with obliquely flattened side, 4-5 mm diam.; tunics of dark brown, ± imbricate layers fragmenting into sections from base. Stem unbranched, sheathed below by membranous cataphyll. Leaves 3 or 4, all ± basal or uppermost cauline, falcate or ± straight, 30-70 x 2-3 mm, soft-textured, main vein slightly thickened. Spike (1)2-or 3-flowered; bracts 15-23(-30) mm long, inner concealed by outer. Flowers diurnal, salver-shaped, glossy red-purple; perianth tube cylindric, expanded neat apex, 25-35 mm long; tepals subequal, oblanceolate 15-18 x 3 mm, spreading. Filaments ± erect, 10 mm long; anthers ± 5 mm long, horizontal, pale yellow; pollen yellow. Style branches ± 10 mm long, spreading.
