Characteristics

Plants 100-200 mm high. Corm globose to ovoid, with flattened oblique base, 3-6 mm diam., bearing small cormlets at base; tunics woody, imbricate, splitting from below into sections. Stem simple or 1-or 2-branched from axils of upper leaves. Leaves 4 or 5, lower 2 or 3 basal, with well-developed, soft-textured, ± flaccid blades reaching up to ± base of spike, plane, 2-3 mm wide, ± linear, upper 1 or 2 leaves cauline, uppermost largely sheathing, margins and main vein hardly thickened. Spike flexuose, mostly 2-to 4-flowered; bracts pale green, margins membranous, outer 12-16 mm long, inner slightly shorter. Flowers diurnal, salver-shaped, pale yellow, odourless; perianth tube (12-)16-22 mm long, cylindric, widening slightly above; tepals elliptic, 15-26 x ± 5.5 mm, slightly cupped. Filaments suberect, ± 5 mm long; anthers diverging, 5-6 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Style branches 10 mm long, ± spreading, reaching close to anther tips in closed flower. Capsules obovoid, ± 10 mm long. Seeds unknown.
