Characteristics

Plants mostly 100-200 mm high. Corm bell-shaped with flat base, ± 10 mm diam.; tunics woody, margin with radiating spines. Stem simple or 1-or 2-branched from near base. Leaves 3 to 5, plane, ± lanceolate, 1/2-2/3 as long as spike, 3-7 mm wide. Spike flexuose, (1)2-to 4-flowered; bracts green or flushed red, becoming dry above, 9-14 mm long. Flowers diurnal, salver-shaped, pink to red-purple, sometimes white in throat (rarely uniformly yellow), outer tepals darker outside, occasionally scented; perianth tube 6-11 mm long, cylindric, widening near apex; tepals unequal, elliptic, spreading horizontally, outer 18-23(-26) x 7-9 mm, inner shorter and narrower. Filaments 2-8 mm long; anthers 5.5-9.0 mm long, ?purple (yellow when flowers yellow). Style branches 9-15 mm long, shorter than or exceeding anther tips in closed flower, laxly spreading. Capsules ovoid, 5-10 mm long. Seeds unknown.
