Characteristics

Plants 120-300 mm high. Corm conic, 7-9 mm diam.; tunics woody, dark brown, concentric, soon breaking into elliptic segments tapering above into short points. Stem unbranched. Leaves 4, lower 2 basal, upper smaller and partly to entirely sheathing, blades ± linear, 2.5-3.5 mm wide, suberect, with scabrid hairs on margins, main vein and secondary veins, main vein prominently thickened, margins less so. Spike 1-to 3(4)-flowered; bracts 20-24 mm long, green. Flowers dull salmon-pink, pale yellow-green in mouth of tube edged in darker salmon; perianth tube 20-25 mm long, unusually slender, occluded by style almost to apex and without nectar; tepals spreading, 14-18 x 3.5 mm, subacute. Filaments erect, ± 5 mm long; anthers erect, ± contiguous, ± 4.5 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Style branches suberect in open flower, ± 6 mm long, reaching to ± upper 1/3 of anthers and extending between them. Capsules oblong, (10-)12-14 mm long. Seeds angular-prismatic, ± 1.2 x 1.0 mm, with membranous ridges on angles.
