Characteristics

Plants 80-250 mm high. Corm ± globose, 8-12 mm diam., asymmetric with oblique flat side; tunics woody, imbricate, dark brown, outer layers V-notched on lower margins. Stem slender, simple or 1-branched from near base. Leaves 4 or 5, all ± basal or uppermost cauline, blades plane, ± falcate, ± half as long as stem, 7-10 mm wide, uppermost leaf sheathing lower 1/3 of stem. Spike 1-to 3-flowered; bracts green, 15-20 mm long. Flowers diurnal, salver-shaped, dark red-purple, darker purple at bases of tepals, white in throat; perianth tube straight, ± 20 mm long, cylindric, wider near apex; tepals subequal, elliptic, 16-20 x 5-7 mm, spreading. Filaments suberect, ± 1.7 mm long; anthers 5-6 mm long, purple; pollen purple. Style branches 10-14 mm long, spreading, exceeding anthers in closed flower. Capsules ovoid-oblong, 10-14 mm long. Seeds unknown.
