Characteristics

Plants 100-300 mm high. Corm ± globose, 6-8 mm diam.; tunics woody, concentric, brown, outer layers breaking into irregular sections. Stem slender, unbranched, sheathed basally by brittle, dark brown cataphylls. Leaves 3, all ± basal, lower 2 up to 100 x 3-7 mm, plane, falcate or ± oblong, obtuse, uppermost leaf sheathing lower 1/2-2/3 of stem, quadrangular in section, free in upper 10 mm. Spike (1-)3-to 7-flowered; bracts green below, pale and membranous distally, 7-9 mm long. Flowers diurnal, ± rotate, white, outer tepals flushed or speckled dull pink to red outside, sweetly scented; perianth tube straight, 2-3 mm long, cylindric, included in bracts; tepals subequal, narrowly obovate, 9-12 x ± 3 mm, spreading. Filaments weakly diverging, ± 3 mm long; anthers 3-4 mm long, white; pollen white. Style branches ± 5 mm long, ascending, reaching to ± middle of anthers in closed flower. Capsules ± barrel-shaped, ± 6 mm long. Seeds unknown.
