Characteristics

Plants mostly 150-300 mm high. Corm ± ovoid with obliquely flattened side, 7-10 mm diam.; tunics dark brown, ± concentric, layers fragmenting irregularly into sections. Stem simple or 1-to 3-branched from base, sheathed below by membranous cataphyll. Leaves usually 3 or 4, lower 2 or 3 basal, ± linear, slightly inflated, reaching ± to base of spike, 2-3 mm wide, soft-textured, veins and margins not raised, uppermost leaf cauline, with elongate sheath and short free apex. Spike 2-to 5-flowered; bracts mostly 9-12 mm long, green or becoming dry above. Flowers crepuscular, salver-shaped, white, outer tepals flushed brown outside, sweetly scented; perianth tube cylindric, funnel-shaped, 7-10 mm long; tepals ± elliptic, 14-15 mm x 4-5 mm, inner slightly shorter and wider, spreading. Filaments ± erect, ± 3 mm long; anthers ± 6 mm long, horizontal, white; pollen white. Style branches ± 8 mm long, spreading.
