Characteristics

Plants 180-300 mm high. Corm ovoid, 8-12 mm diam.; tunics woody, concentric. Stem usually unbranched, flexuose, often looped above sheaths of upper leaves. Leaves mostly (4)5, lower (3)4 basal or subbasal, largest, uppermost 1 or 2 inserted in middle of stem, sometimes entirely sheathing or with short free unifacial tip, blades of lower leaves linear, (1)2-4 mm wide, margins and main vein not or barely thickened when alive. Spike flexuose, mostly 4-to 8-flowered; outer bract mostly 9-12 mm long, green, inner bract ± 2/3 as long as outer. Flowers diurnal, pale to deep pink, outer tepals with a coppery brown flush outside; perianth tube cylindric below, widening near apex, 5-7(-10) mm long; tepals subequal, ± elliptic, 13-16 x 5.0-6.5 mm, spreading. Filaments 3-5 mm long; anthers 4-5(-6) mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Style branches 10-12 mm long, laxly spreading, exceeding anthers by ± 2 mm in closed flower. Capsules oblong-obovoid, 7-9 mm long. Seeds subglobose or the sides flattened by pressure, ± 0.6 mm long.
