Characteristics

Plants (50-)120-180 mm high. Corm ± globose, 10-14 mm diam., asymmetric with oblique flat side; tunics woody, imbricate, dark brown, outer layers V-notched on lower margins. Stem simple or 1-or 2(3)-branched from near base. Leaves 4 or 5, all ± basal or uppermost cauline, blades plane, ± falcate, ± half as long as stem, 7-10 mm wide, uppermost leaf sheathing lower 1/3 of stem. Spike 1-to 3-flowered; bracts green, 15-20 mm long. Flowers diurnal, rotate, yellow, usually with large ± black centre and dark brown on upper 1/3 of outer or all tepals, rarely uniformly yellow; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 5-8 mm long; tepals subequal, obovate-elliptic, 30-35 x 12-17 mm, widely cupped. Filaments suberect, ± 3 mm long; anthers 11-15 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Style branches ± 6 mm long, diverging, reaching ± middle of anthers in closed flower. Capsules ovoid-oblong, 9-10 mm long. Seeds softly angular, yellow-brown.
