Stout perennial herb or subshrub up to 1 m tall, rarely to 2 m, stems simple and nude below, well-branched above, branches closely leafy, young stems and leaf bases softly pilose. Leaves alternate, crowded at the stem tips, up to 13 x 3 cm, lanceolate, tapering to a petiole-like, half-clasping base, uppermost leaves sessile, passing into inflorescence bracts, thinly hairy, margins entire or serrulate. Heads turbinate, c. 6 mm across when pressed, in congested clusters corymbose-paniculately arranged at the ends of the branches. Involucral bracts in c. 2 series, outer oblong, obtuse to truncate, inner lanceolate, pilose, viscid, midline with immersed oil sacs. Flowers bright yellow. Achenes 3 mm long.
