Characteristics

An herbaceous perennial producing one or a few leaf rosettes from a stoloniferous stock, the non-flowering rosettes, which are probably biennial, appearing lateral to the flowering stems, flowering stems up to c. 1 m tall, simple below, branching midway to produce a large open corymbose inflorescence, leafy, both stems and leaves with spreading white hairs. Radical leaves long-petioled, blade oblong, up to 20 x 4 cm, apex blunt, base somewhat cordate or rounded, margins subentire or irregularly crenulate-serrulate, often with small peg-like glands, petiole up to 15 cm long, base expanded, semiamplexicaul, cauline leaves smaller, only the lower ones petiolate, passing rapidly into leaves with a poorly defined petiolar region, sometimes dissected, shortly decurrent, uppermost leaves and inflorescence bracts sessile. Heads broadly campanulate or subrotund, c. 1 cm across when pressed, bright yellow, in a very open compound inflorescence. Involucral bracts lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, equalling the disc, gland-dotted, pilose, midline with embedded oil sacs, margins membranous. Achenes 2.5 mm long.
