Species

Angiosperms > Dilleniales > Dilleniaceae > Hibbertia

Characteristics

Sprawling or erect shrubs (0.3–) 0.4–0.6 m high. Young stems moderately to densely tomentose or woolly with short, ± tangled, curled, simple hairs. Leaves mostly clustered on short-shoots, sessile, spreading, linear, 6–17 (–25) mm long, (0.5–) 1–1.5 mm wide; base flattened but not dilated; margins strongly recurved to revolute; adaxial surface glabrescent with sparse, tangled, crisped hairs (denser and longer at the base), particularly towards the margins; abaxial surface glabrescent with sparse crisped hairs, denser on the midrib; apex obtuse to acute. Flowers single, terminating short-shoots, sessile. Bracts 1–3, inconspicuous (mostly hidden by the subtending leaves), scarious; primary bract ovate to elliptic, 1–3 mm long, glabrous or rarely with sparse simple hairs, the apex obtuse to subacute; secondary bracts similar in colour, indumentum and shape to the primary bract, grading into the leaves. Sepals (3–) 4–6 mm long, herbaceous with pale, membranous margins, glabrous or with very sparse crisped hairs; outer sepals elliptic, obtuse; inner sepals similar to the outer but longer and broader. Petals 5, yellow, obovate, (4–) 5–10 mm long, emarginate. Stamens 11–13 (–18), arranged around the carpels in 3 bundles each of (2) 3–5 stamens and sometimes with 1 or 2 stamens single; filaments of bundles fused, 1–1.5 mm long; anthers narrowly oblong, (1–) 1.3–2 mm long, dehiscing by introrse longitudinal slits; staminodes absent. Carpels 3; ovaries globular, glabrous; styles horizontal then spreading-erect, 1.5–2.5 mm long. Ovule 1 per carpel. Seeds brown, ellipsoid, 1.5–1.8 mm long; aril basal, scarious, white-translucent.
