Hibbertia lividula J.R.Wheeler

Species

Angiosperms > Dilleniales > Dilleniaceae > Hibbertia

Characteristics

Erect to sprawling shrubs 0.3–0.5 (–0.75) m high, multi-stemmed at the base. Young stems moderately woolly with tangled curled to sinuous whitish simple hairs. Leaves sessile, spreading-erect, scattered (sometimes fascicled on axillary short-shoots), narrowly oblong to narrowly obovate, (5–) 8–15 (–25) mm long, 1.5–3 (–4) mm wide, ± glaucous beneath the indumentum; margins entire, narrowly to broadly recurved; adaxial surface evenly pubescent with curled to sinuous, loosely appressed simple hairs mixed with some longer straighter hairs on young leaves, the oldest leaves with sparser indumentum or rarely ± glabrous; abaxial surface with similar indumentum to the adaxial, but the hairs somewhat longer and straighter; apex obtuse. Flowers single, mostly terminating short-shoots in upper leaf axils, sessile. Bracts 3–6, dark brown, scarious, ovate, bluntly acuminate to obtuse, 1.5–3 mm long, abaxially moderately to densely pubescent with short, appressed hairs along the central portion and near the apex; primary and secondary bracts similar. Sepals ovate, 5–9 mm long, abaxially moderately to densely greyish-pubescent (denser towards the apex), adaxially glabrous except for very short appressed hairs towards the apex; midribs not prominent; outer sepals bluntly acuminate to bluntly acute; inner sepals similar to the outer, but broader, with broad, glabrous, scarious margins, less acute to obtuse; buds not to scarcely rostrate. Petals 5, yellow, obovate, 6–15 mm long, emarginate. Stamens 30–40, usually in 5 bundles around the gynoecium with narrow gaps at the carpels (sometimes ± continuous); filaments free, 1.5–2.5 mm long, not closely appressed to the carpels; anthers shortly oblong, 0.7–1.2 mm long, dehiscing by short, introrse apical slits; staminodes absent (although occasional outer stamens are reduced). Carpels (4) 5; ovaries compressed-ovoid, glabrous; styles spreading laterally and excentrically from near the carpel apex, 1.5–3 mm long. Ovules 2 (3) per carpel. Seeds not seen.
