Hibbertia miniata C.A.Gardner

Species

Angiosperms > Dilleniales > Dilleniaceae > Hibbertia

Characteristics

Sprawling shrubs 20–40 (–100) cm high, multi-stemmed at base. Young stems with a somewhat cobwebby indumentum of short, simple, interwoven, greyish, ± appressed hairs. Leaves sessile, spreading, ovate to oblong, rarely obovate, (20–) 30–40 (–60) mm long, 4–10 (–15) mm wide; margins flat to slightly and narrowly recurved, sometimes broadly recurving on drying, entire or rarely with a few short obscure teeth towards the apex; adaxial surface sparsely to moderately appressed-tomentose with ± matted, somewhat interwoven simple hairs, these sometimes ± differentiated into shorter, curled hairs and longer straighter ones, ± glabrescent; abaxial surface similar to the adaxial but the hairs longer, denser, less appressed and more persistent; apex obtuse. Flowers single, clustered in axils of upper leaves towards the apices of upright stems, sessile or on short, densely pubescent pedicels to 3 mm long (hidden within the floral bracts). Bracts brown, scarious, broadly ovate to orbicular, 4–6 mm long, shortly silky-hairy especially towards the apex, which is rounded to broadly acute; primary and secondary bracts similar. Sepals rather narrowly ovate to triangular, 12–18 mm long, densely appressed-silky with pale grey hairs; midribs not prominent; outer sepals acute; inner sepals similar in size, apex shape and indumentum to the outer. Petals 5, deep orange to pale apricot, oblong to obovate, 18–25 mm long, deeply emarginate with a broad to narrow sinus. Stamens 74–108, distributed evenly around the carpels; filaments free, 3–5 mm long, closely appressed to the carpels; anthers usually purplish-black (rarely yellow), almost cuboid to shortly rectangular, 1–1.5 mm long, dehiscing by introrse slits c. half the length of the anther; staminodes absent. Carpels 5; ovaries compressed-ovoid, densely pilose; styles ± straight to slightly curved, excentric from the carpel apex, 2–2.5 mm long, radiating outward, with the stigmas just protruding between the staminal filaments below the level of the anthers. Ovules 2 per carpel. Seeds not seen.
