Compact to open, decumbent to erect shrubs to 0.3 (–0.4) m high, multi-stemmed at the base. Young stems moderately to densely greyish-tomentose with short, curled simple hairs overtopped at least when young by longer pilose ones. Leaves sessile or subsessile, spreading, scattered or clustered at the ends of the branches, elliptic to obovate, 20–40 mm long, (7–) 10–20 mm wide; margins entire (rarely with a few shallow and obscure teeth), slightly and narrowly recurved; adaxial surface densely greyish-pubescent or-tomentose with overtopping sparse, pilose hairs when young, glabrescent; abaxial surface as for adaxial but the tomentum denser and more persistent, and the hairs slightly longer; apex obtuse to bluntly acute. Flowers single, in upper leaf axils or terminal to short-shoots, sessile. Bracts 4–8, dark brown to blackish, scarious, broadly ovate to orbicular, obtuse to apiculate, to 12 mm long, pubescent; primary and secondary bracts similar. Sepals herbaceous, ovate to broadly triangular, 8–10 mm long, abaxially densely grey to white appressed silky-pilose (the hairs shorter and woollier towards the apex), adaxially sparsely to moderately appressed-pubescent along the margins and towards the apex; midribs not prominent; outer sepals subacute; inner sepals similar to the outer in size, shape, apex and indumentum but slightly broader; buds subacute. Petals 5, yellow, obovate, 12–14 mm long, emarginate. Stamens 60–90, distributed evenly around the carpels; filaments free, 2–4 mm long, closely appressed to the carpels; anthers oblong to rectangular, c. 2 mm long, dehiscing by short introrse longitudinal slits near the apex; staminodes and reduced stamens present around the periphery of the androecium. Carpels 5; ovaries compressed, densely pubescent; styles excentrically spreading-erect from near the carpel apex, 3–4 mm long. Ovules 2 per carpel. Seeds glossy reddish-brown, globular, c. 3.5 mm in diameter, with a short aril at the base.
