Erect shrubs 0.15–0.3 m high. Young stems sparsely pilose with spreading or interwoven white, simple hairs. Leaves sessile or subsessile, spreading, usually clustered at the ends of shoots and often appearing subwhorled as the shoot grows out, narrowly elliptic to obovate, (15–) 20–30 (–40) mm long, (4–) 6–10 (–14) mm wide; margins entire (with a few obscure teeth on young plants), narrowly recurved; adaxial surface sparsely pilose with sinuous simple hairs, glabrescent; abaxial surface similar to the adaxial but the hairs usually denser and more persistent; apex obtuse. Flowers single, axillary in upper leaf axils or terminating short-shoots, sessile. Bracts 4 to 8, to 10 mm long, dark brown to blackish, scarious, broadly ovate to orbicular, obtuse to apiculate, glabrous to sparsely pubescent; primary and secondary bracts similar. Sepals narrowly ovate, 7–9 mm long, abaxially densely appressed-pilose at the base, scarious and glabrous in the upper half, adaxially glabrous; midribs not prominent; outer sepals acute; inner sepals similar to the outer in size, shape and indumentum; buds acute. Petals 5, orange grading to pink at the base (at least on dried specimens), narrowly obovate, very narrow at base and almost clawed, 15–22 mm long, widely emarginate to bilobed. Stamens 54–61, arranged all around and closely appressed to the carpels; filaments filiform, free, 1–3 mm long; anthers narrowly to broadly rectangular, 0.8–1 mm long, dehiscing by introrse longitudinal slits; staminodes and reduced stamens present around the periphery of the stamens. Carpels 3; ovaries globular, densely pubescent in the upper half, glabrous below; styles erect from near the carpel apex, c. 1 mm long. Ovules 2 per carpel. Seeds not seen.
