Characteristics

Shrub or tree 2–4 m high. Branchlets with aculei (sparse to moderately dense, 0.3–1.2 mm long), and glandular hairs, with or without stellate hairs (the hairs fine, sparse to moderately dense). Stipules caducous, subulate to very narrowly triangular, 3–6 mm long, with stellate hairs and glandular hairs. Climax leaves: petiole 40–150 mm long,  indumentum similar or dissimilar to branchlet; lamina broadly elliptic, broadly ovate or orbicular, unlobed to moderately 1–3-lobed (lobes longer than wide to as long as wide), 60–180 mm long, 75–230 mm wide, truncate or cordate base, serrate margin, acute to rounded or attenuate apex, concolorous or discolourous, indumentum similar on both surfaces or more dense on the abaxial surface, the abaxial surface with stellate hairs (sparse to moderately dense, both fine and coarse), glandular hairs, and occasionally aculei; foliar nectary at lamina base, 5–10 mm long. Flowers solitary in leaf axils or sympodial (in few-to several-flowered terminal and/or distal-axillary racemoid axes), not pedunculate; pedicel 7–20 mm long in fruit, with stellate hairs and aculei (a few of these up to 4-branched); epicalyx with stellate hairs and aculei, 9–12-segmented, epicalyx segments free at the base, linear and incurved, 18–24 mm long in fruit, 1-veined; calyx 17–23 mm long in fruit, indumentum whitish, with stellate hairs and aculei, calyx nectaries absent; petals 5–9 mm long, pink or white, lacking a petal spot; staminal column 15–21 mm long, stamens distributed evenly along the length of the column, filaments 1–1.5 mm long; style extends 5–10 mm above apex of staminal column, the branches 1–3 mm in length. Capsule ovoid, 14–19 mm long, densely hairy, the hairs appressed, the beak 0.15–3 mm long. Seeds angular-subreniform, c. 4 mm long, with striate and minutely pectinate-pubescent hairs.
