Characteristics

Shrub to 1.5 m high. Branchlets with stellate hairs of two size classes (long coarse hairs 2–3.5  mm long and short soft stellate hairs 0.3–0.5 mm long, the indumentum not obscuring the epidermis), lacking glandular hairs. Climax leaves: petiole 15–32 mm long; lamina broadly elliptic, 3-lobed, 31–55 mm long, 28–60 mm wide, base cordate, margin serrate-dentate to crenate, apex acute, indumentum of short soft stellate hairs, yellowish. Flowers with the peduncle obsolete or up to 2 mm long, pedicel present; epicalyx short soft stellate-hairy, 6-or 7-segmented, segments shortly connate at the base, spathulate, 18–20 long, 3.5–4 mm wide, shorter than the calyx; calyx short soft stellate-hairy on the abaxial surface, campanulate, 24–26 mm long, lobes ovate, the apex acute, 3-veined; petals yellow with red basal spots, short coarse stellate-hairy on the abaxial surface, glabrous on the adaxial surface, 34–36 mm long, 18–25 mm wide, rounded at the apex; staminal column glabrous, 16–18 mm long, stamens distributed throughout, filaments 0.5–1 mm long; ovary hairy, style arms 2–3 mm long. Capsule hairy, 15–20 mm long, 12–13 mm wide, beak 1 mm long. Seeds angular r eniform, 3–3.5 mm long, concentrically ribbed, short brownish to yellowish stellate hairy or rarely glabrous.
