Characteristics

Leaf-lamina up to 3·5 × 3 cm., ovate to suborbicular in outline, 3-sect or 3-lobed, greyish-tomentose and sparsely setose, margin crenate or coarsely serrate, base cordate; petiole up to 2 cm. long; stipules about 2 mm. long, filiform, very caducous.

Erect annual herb up to 50 cm. tall, branched from near the base; stems slender, arcuate-ascending, crisped-pubescent and rather sparsely stellate-setose with comparatively large 1–5-pronged bristles.
Flowers 1·5–2·5 cm. in diam., yellow with purple centre, in small 3–5-flowered terminal cymes; peduncle 4 mm. long.
Calyx 10–12 mm. long, densely pubescent; lobes 2–3 mm. broad at the base, triangular, joined for 3–5 mm.
Epicalyx of 7–8 bracts; bracts 3–4 mm. long, narrowly linear to filiform.
Staminal tube c. 6 mm. long; free parts of filaments 0·5 mm. long.
Style-branches 1·5 mm. long (probably immature).
Petals 2·5 cm. long, narrowly obovate.
