Characteristics

Shrub 2–4 m high. Branchlets with stellate hairs (moderately dense to very dense), aculei (sparse to moderately dense, 0.7­–1.2 mm long) and glandular hairs. Stipules caducous. Climax leaves: petiole 30–160 mm long, indumentum similar or dissimilar to that of the branchlet; lamina broadly ovate to orbicular, unlobed to shallowly 1–3-lobed (lobes shorter than wide), 50–120 mm long, 55–155 mm wide, truncate to cordate base, serrulate to entire margin, acute, obtuse to rounded apex, concolorous, indumentum similar on both surfaces, the abaxial surface with midrib and primary vein indumentum dissimilar to interveinal regions, with stellate hairs (moderately dense to very dense) and glandular hairs. Distal leaves reduced in size and shape, broadly ovate to ovate, concolorous to weakly discolorous. Foliar nectary at lamina base, 6–15 mm long. Flowers solitary in leaf axils or sympodial in few-to several-flowered terminal and/or distal-axillary racemoid axes, not pedunculate; pedicel 6–10 mm long, with stellate hairs and aculei; epicalyx 4–7 mm long, indumentum of stellate hairs, 10–15-segmented, segments connate at the base, incurved, subulate, the segments 3–4 mm long, 0.15–0.25 times the length of the calyx; calyx at anthesis 15–19 mm long, indumentum yellowish, with very dense stellate hairs, calyx nectaries absent; petals 5.5–6.5 mm long, pink; staminal column 18–22 mm long with the stamens distributed along the distal 16–19 mm, the filaments 1–1.5 mm long; style exserted 5–7 mm beyond the apex of the staminal column, the branches 1 mm long, stigmas capitate, stigma hairs 0.1–0.5 mm long. Capsule ovoid, 14–18 mm long, densely hairy, beak 1–2 mm long. Seed angular-reniform, c. 4 mm long, striate with minute pectinate scales.
