Characteristics

Subshrub 0.9–2.5 m high. Branchlets with stellate hairs (0.3–0.5 mm long, sparse), and fine bristles (0.3–0.5 mm long, scattered), hairs whitish to yellowish. Stipules deciduous, linear to subulate, 5–7 mm long, 0.15–0.2 mm long, with fine bristles. Climax leaves: petiole 5–50 mm long; lamina broadly ovate or narrowly ovate to elliptic, unlobed to deeply 3-lobed (the lobes longer than wide), 25–100 mm long, 6–70 mm wide, truncate, cordate or rounded base, serrate margin, acute apex, discolorous, the indumentum similar on both surfaces, the abaxial surface with midrib and primary vein indumentum of sparse fine stellate hairs and fine bristles, hairs whitish or yellowish; foliar nectary at lamina base, c. 1 mm long; distal leaves linear or lanceolate, reduced in size, petiolate to subsessile. Flowers solitary in leaf axils, pedunculate, peduncle 5–30 mm long, with sparse to moderately dense stellate hairs, and moderately dense fine bristles; pedicel 3–10 mm long, indumentum like peduncle; epicalyx with fine bristles, 6–8-segmented, the segments free, usually straight in flower and fruit, sometimes slightly recurved in fruit, linear, 4–5 mm long at anthesis; calyx at anthesis not splitting (5-lobed but not splitting per se), 5–8 mm long, adaxial with sparse fine bristles, nectary absent; petals 10–16 mm long, white, petal spot absent; staminal column straight, 10–13 mm long, stamens distributed along the distal 7–8 mm of the column, inserted singly or twinned, filaments 0.5–1 mm long, anthers green, pollen white; style exserted 3–4.5 mm beyond apex of staminal column, 5-branched, branches 3.5–3.6 mm long, stigmas entire, 2–4 mm wide, capitate, the hairs to c. 0.1 mm long. Capsule ovoid, 7–10 mm long, densely hairy with simple ascending hairs. Seeds subreniform, 7–9 mm long, glabrous, indumentum of long silky hairs, 4–6 mm long, brownish to rusty, sides of seed glabrous.
