Characteristics

Shrub 2–4 m high. Branchlets with stellate hairs, scattered to very dense, (the fine hairs 0.05–0.2 mm long, the coarse hairs 0.1–0.4 mm long), aculei 0.8–1.2 mm long and glandular hairs. Stipules caducous, subulate, 5–7 mm long. Mature leaves: petiole 15–100 mm long, indumentum dissimilar to the branchlet (stellate hairs very dense, few aculei); lamina broadly ovate or circular or very broadly ovate, deeply to moderately 3–5-lobed (lobes longer than wide), 75–130 mm long, 70–170 mm wide, cuneate to cordate base, distantly serrulate to serrate margin, obtuse apex, concolorous, indumentum similar on both surfaces, with scattered to very dense stellate hairs and glandular hairs and sometimes with aculei (only on the veins). Foliar nectary the lamina base, 4–8 mm long. Distal leaves reduced in size, narrowly ovate or narrowly elliptic. Flowers sometimes solitary in the leaf axils but mostly in sympodia in few-to several-flowered terminal and/or distal-axillary racemoid axes, not pedunculate; pedicel 10–15 mm long (to 13–22 mm long in fruit), with stellate hairs and aculei; epicalyx with stellate hairs and aculei, 11-segmented, segments free at the base, 10–15 mm long (to 13–22 mm long in fruit), 0.9–1 times the length of the calyx, 19–22 mm long; calyx at anthesis 20–24 mm long, indumentum whitish, moderately dense stellate hairs and aculei, calyx nectaries absent; petals 60–80 mm long, pink with proximal region reddish; staminal column 17–20 mm long, stamens distributed throughout its length, filaments 1 mm long; style exserted 4–5 mm beyond apex of staminal column, branches 1–3 mm long; stigmas capitate, stigma hairs 0.5 mm long. Capsule ovoid, 18 mm long, densely hairy, hairs appressed, beak 1 mm long. Seed angular-reniform, 4 mm long, striate and minutely pectinate-pubescent.
