Leaf-lamina 1–5 × 1–5 cm., broadly ovate to suborbicular, often not or scarcely lobed towards the base of the stem, becoming shallowly to deeply 3-lobed towards the apex, hairy like the young stems on both surfaces, lobes broadly elliptic to almost linear, usually narrower in the upper leaves, apex acute to rounded, margin entire or coarsely serrate, base usually cordate; petiole up to 4·5 cm. long, hairy like the young stems; stipules 1–2 mm. long, filiform, caducous.

Annual herb from 6 cm. to 1 m. tall, erect or with arcuate-ascending branches from near the base; young stems densely pubescent or tomentellous with occasional longer weak or stiffish hairs.
Flowers 3–3·5 cm. in diam., white or pale yellow, solitary, axillary; peduncle up to 4 cm. long, slender, pubescent, articulated c. 2 mm. below the apex.
Calyx 8–13 mm. long, becoming somewhat scarious in fruit, hairy like the young stems; lobes narrowly lanceolate, joined for c. 3 mm. at the base.
Annual herb, 0.6-1.0 m high. Stipules 1-2 mm long. Epicalyx absent. Calyx lobes longer than capsule. Flowers white or pale yellow.
Staminal tube up to 12 mm. long, antheriferous only in the upper half; free parts of filaments 1·5–2 mm. long.
Capsule 5–8 × 5–6 mm., ellipsoid, carpels pointed or with short awns 0·5–1 mm. long.
Seeds 2 × 1·5 mm., irregularly subreniform, densely verruculose otherwise glabrous.
Petals up to 18 × 8 mm., narrowly obovate, glabrous.
