Characteristics

Leaves petiolate; lamina 8–13·5 × 2·5–4·3 cm., elliptic to oblong-elliptic, acute to subacute at the apex, broadly to narrowly cuneate at the base, entire or remotely and very shallowly serrate, chartaceous, entirely glabrous when mature or appressed-pubescent at base of midrib below, with the midrib, 9–13 pairs of lateral nerves and densely reticulate tertiary venation prominent on both sides, especially below; petiole 6–12 mm. long, shortly subappressed-pubescent; stipules 3–4·5 mm. long, 4–5-digitate or subpinnatifid with linear lobes, long-appressed-pubescent outside, glabrous within, ribbed, soon deciduous.

Shrub 3 m. high, climbing; branches striate and brown-sericeo-pubescent when young, eventually terete, with cream-brown bark and numerous raised whitish lenticels.
Flowers 3–4 in condensed pedunculate cymes, in axils of foliage leaves; peduncles c. 3 mm. long; pedicels 5–6 mm. long, articulated, appressed-brown-pubescent.
Sepals 6–8 mm. long, ovate, the outer ones subacute, the inner ones rounded, shallowly vertically ribbed, appressed-brown-pubescent outside, glabrous within.
Ovary c. 2 mm. long, ovoid, glabrous; styles 2–3, united for a short distance at the base, glabrous; stigmas broadly and obliquely capitate.
Petals yellow, c. 10 mm. long, obovate, rounded at the apex, with margin pubescent, otherwise glabrous.
Stamens glabrous; longer filaments linear, shorter ones triangular; anthers oblong.
Drupe (immature) globose, with thin brown pericarp and 2–3 fertile 1-seeded loculi.
