Erect herb or subshrub 20–40 cm. tall.. Stems tufted, woody, ± densely pubescent with hairs which are not or scarcely bulbous-based, but glabrescent towards the base; rootstock massive, woody.. Leaves 2-foliolate; leaflets subsessile, obliquely obcordate, 0.7–2.7 cm. long, 0.7–1.8 cm. wide, the main nerve dividing the blade into very unequal parts, the smaller part two-thirds to the same height and one-twelfth to two-thirds the width of the larger part, cuneate, glabrous, entire or sparsely and very finely denticulate sometimes only at the apex; petiole 0.4–2 cm. long; stipules elliptic, obovate or deltoid, 0.9–2.8 cm. long, 0.6–2 cm. wide, obtuse at the apex, unequally auriculate at the base, leafy, entire or finely ciliate-denticulate, glabrous, persistent..
