Species

Pteridophytes > Lycopodiales > Lycopodiaceae > Huperzioideae > Huperzia

Characteristics

Plants epilithic or epiphytic. Stems with a basal tuft of roots, erect with the apices arching, or pendulous, several times isotomously branched, up to 380 mm long, to 5 mm in diameter. Leaves isophyllous, heterophyllous; vegetative leaves coriaceous, narrowly oblong, entire, acute to broadly acute, imbricate, to 10 mm long, to 2 mm wide. Sporophylls gradually or abruptly smaller than the vegetative leaves, broadly ovate, entire, acute, imbricate, to 3 mm long, to 2 mm wide. Sporangia reniform, isovalvate, to 1.5 mm in diameter. Spores yellow, subtriangular, trilete, foveolate, (38-)40(-42) µm in equatorial diameter, (24-)26(-30) µm in polar diameter.
More
Stems rooting at base, erect and arching, or pendant, often repeatedly dichotomously branched, up to 400 mm long, up to 2 mm in diam. Lycophylls coriaceous, imbricate, narrowly oblong, entire, up to 14 x 3 mm. Sporophylls at upper part of ultimate branches, much smaller than sterile lycophylls, coriaceous, imbricate, broadly ovate, up to 3 x 2 mm. Sporangia near sporophyll base, yellow-brown, reniform, somewhat flattened, up to 2 mm in diam.
Stems erect, arching or pendulous, dichotomously branched, up to 500 x 4 mm. Leaves very narrowly oblong, coriaceous, acute to broadly acute, imbricate, up to 14 x 3 mm. Sporophylls much shorter than foliage leaves, broadly ovate, acute, closely imbricate, up to 3 x 2 mm.
Perennial with erect, arching or pendulous, dichotomously branched, aerial stems. Leaves firm and leathery, closely imbricate, narrowly oblong, to 10 mm long. Sporophylls shorter than foliage leaves, forming distinct strobili at branch ends.
Epiphyte or lithophyte. Sporophylls different from foliage leaves, not grouped into pedunculate strobili, shorter than 4 mm, 2.5-3 mm long. Leaves coriaceous, closely imbricate. Fertile region longer than 20 mm.
