Species

Pteridophytes > Lycopodiales > Lycopodiaceae > Huperzioideae > Huperzia

Characteristics

Plants epilithic. Stems with a basal tuft of roots, pendulous, several times isotomously branched, to 520 mm long, to 2 mm in diameter. Leaves isophyllous, homophyllous, firmly herbaceous, acicular, loosely imbricate, to 7 mm long, to 0.7 mm wide. Sporophylls not conspicuously smaller than the vegetative leaves, firmly herbaceous, acicular, entire, loosely imbricate, to 7 mm long, to 0.7 mm wide. Sporangia reniform to subcircular, isovalvate, to 1 mm in diameter. Spores yellow, subtriangular, trilete, foveolate, (30-)31(-32) µm in equatorial diameter, (20-)21(-22) µm in polar diameter.
More
Stems rooting at base, pendant, repeatedly dichotomously branched, up to 500 mm long, up to 3 mm in diam. Lycophylls firmly herbaceous, loosely imbricate, acicular, entire, up to 6 x 0.5 mm. Sporophylls mainly in upper part of ultimate branches, almost indistinguishable from sterile lycophylls. Sporangia near axil of sporophylls, yellow-brown, globular, up to 2.5 mm in diam.
Epilithic or epiphytic. Stems pendulous, repeatedly branched, up to 500 mm long. Leaves suberect, acicular, up to 8 mm long; sporophylls not distinct from sterile leaves. Sporangia single, conspicuous in sporophyll axils of distal stem portion.
Stems pendulous, repeatedly dichotomously branched, up to 500 x c. 10 mm. Leaves acicular, suberect, membranous, loosely imbricate. Sporophylls almost indistinguishable from foliage leaves, c. 5 x 0.2 mm; sporangia usually evident.
Epiphyte or lithophyte. Sporophylls of same size and shape as foliage leaves. Leaves acicular, ± 0.2 mm broad. Spore-bearing stems pendent, dichotomously branched.
