Characteristics

Hirsute herbs with exstipulate leaves and small (± 4.5 mm. long) solitary axillary heterostylous flowers. Calyx hyaline, connate for about half its length, appendaged. Petals and stamens adnate to calyx very near the base of the calyx-tube. Filaments flattened below; anthers very broadly oblong. Placentae parietal, each about 4-ovulate; stigmas laciniate. Capsule dehiscing loculicidally from apex, beak absent. Seeds several, curved. Aril not less than half length of seed.
